Blue Ridge Oil Colors on YouTube

This is a video that was originally shot for a short segment on small businesses in the Carolinas, which was produced by Time Warner Cable.  This is the longer version that is hosted on YouTube.  It is way beyond anything I could have put together to show what it is that I am doing here, and what this company is all about.  Hope you enjoy.

An Introduction to Cezanne - PDF Article

I am pleased to pass along this very interesting article written from a different perspective about Cezanne, and what he was truly striving for in his work.  Not only is it a different perspective, but is written by an extremely knowledgable working artist, not an art historian or art critic.  It is a lengthy read, and a lot to digest, but is well worth the time.

Cremnitz White

We are finally making Cremnitz White, which had been in the works for quite some time.  It has turned out to be an extremely nice paint, with a great consistency under the brush - just the way I like it.  The Cremnitz White is basically just lead carbonate without any other whites added in, which would make it a flake white.  Cremnitz is now just a name typically meaning that it does not have the other whites added, but was historically a different process of production all together.  Those stocks have long since disappeared but the name has remained.  Like other lead whites, the Cremnitz is a warmer white that is more transparent than the others, like a titanium white would be.  This allows for more subtle tints, especially useful in portraiture, but also could find it's way into plein air as well.  As always, we would love to hear your feedback on this one and any questions you may have.

Emile Klein and the YOU'RE U.S. project about to get under way....

We are very proud to be one of the many sponsors of the YOU'RE U.S. project.  For the next five years portrait artist, Emile Klein, will be traveling the American countryside on his bicycle telling the stories of 150 everyday Americans through portraiture.  There will also be oral historians to tell their stories, as well as written accompaniment.  Emile will be using Blue Ridge Oil Colors for his journey, and we are more than happy to be a part of such a project.  To find the true America, and promote the American craftsman will make for an extremely interesting journey.  Once the trip has begun we can all keep up with his progress, see the portraits and the stories at youreus.com/.
